October 1914

There can be no question as to the advisability or not of holding Harvest Thanksgiving Services even at this time of serious and devastating War. The Harvest has been granted to us in excellent weather and great abundance. Whilst the well-filled fields in France and Belgium have not in most districts been able to be reaped because of the marching of millions of troops through those fertile lands, we in the British Isles have reaped our Harvest, thank God, safe from the invasion of our deadly enemies. If ever there was cause for especial thanksgiving to God it should be especially marked in this the year of such fighting as has never been known on such an enormous scale since the world began.
