Chris and Judy Rouse have gone back to many of the original sources, director’s minutes, contemporary newspapers, maps, engineer’s reports, parish death registers, 1841 census and the resulting Chadwick Report and Government Enquiry to show not only the engineering triumph but also the conditions endured by the railway navvies whilst building the tunnel on the summit of the line linking Manchester and Sheffield.

Visitors welcome. We make a small charge for meetings of £3 to visitors and £2 to members.
