Death of King George VI

I was 8 years old when on Monday 18th February 1952 my mother took me with my younger sister and brother by train from Isleworth to Windsor to see the flowers for the funeral of King George VI.

I remember Windsor and Eton station draped in purple and black material. We joined the people queuing from Windsor Castle down Long Walk and up towards the Copper Horse statue. After work, my father came and managed to find us in the queue.

Although it was cold and wet a few days earlier on the day of the funeral, I remember it was quite warm and sunny on the day of our long queue.
