DVS Membership Advert

Are you going to be a founder member of the Dore Village Society?

Local people are bound to be more interested than others in local issues such as:-

preservation or demolition of old buildings
removal or replanting of trees
care of grass verges
parking facilities
repair of footpaths
dangers of narrow pavements
safety of children on the roads

The DORE VILLAGE SOCIETY will provide a forum for discussion of issues of importance to the Village and a focus for action.

THE FIRST MEETING IS TO BE HELD IN THE CHURCH HALL AT 7.45P.M. ON THURSDAY, 17TH SEPTEMBER, 1964.

The proposed aim of the society is: -

“to preserve and enhance those features and
amenities which are of value to the community
of Dore, and to encourage developments
which will improve them.”

The Buchanan Report states: -

“vehicle numbers are likely to double
within ten years, and to treble in a
little over twenty years. The problems
of traffic are crowding in upon us
with desperate urgency.”

Will this mean the widening of Dore High Street? If so will this destroy its character? Is there any alternative?

There is already great interest in village topics, but as yet no way in which a united view can be voiced. Will you come to the meeting and ensure a vigorous and effective Society?
